Bass Coast Fat Bikes is a unique cycling experience along the beautiful beaches from Kilcunda through to Cape Paterson lead by tour guide Chris Baille.

Enjoy the beautiful Bass Coast beaches and spectacular views with the sound of waves crashing as you cycling along from Kilcunda to Cape Paterson.  This is the perfect way to check out our unspoilt beaches and coastline.

With extra fat tyres making it easy to ride on soft sand, Fat Bikes are a phenomenon taking over the beaches of Australia and there available here on the Bass Coast!

During tours there will be opportunities for photography, viewing of wildlife, and exploration of coastal features.

The meeting point for the tours will be the Kilcunda park located 150m to the south east of Kilcunda Oceanview Holiday Retreat entrance.

Tours

Kilcunda to Cape Paterson

This ride explores the beautiful rugged coastline from Kilcunda to Cape Paterson, the inland heath and farmlands around the Wonthaggi area. Featuring the Bunurong Marine Park, State Coal Mine relics, and sections of the Bass Coast Rail Trail, this is such a fun way to see this striking part of Australia’s coast!

Level: Challenging. It is appropriate for any person who can cycle similar distances on road. 

Distance: 44km

Time: Allow 5-6 hours

Cost: $150.00 per person

Must wear:  All participants are required to wear rubber soled shoes while on tour as you will be required to cross rocks on both rides. Failure to comply with this will render you unfit to participate in your scheduled tour.

  • Parks Victoria licenced tour guide with first aid certificate (HLTAID003 Provide first aid, Australian Red Cross)

  • Parks Victoria access permit

  • Australian Standards approved cycling helmet for duration of tour

Tour de Turbine

The Tour de Turbine is a shorter ride and a better choice for the “non-cyclist” who wants to experience and discover our wonderful coastline! 

We ride along the sand to Baxter’s Beach, then explore the tracks under the wind turbines. This ride also returns to Kilcunda via the very popular Bass Coast Rail Trail. 

Level: Moderate. It is appropriate for any person who can cycle similar distances on road. 

Distance: 24km

Time: Allow 3-4 hours

Cost: $95.00 per person

Must wear:  All participants are required to wear rubber soled shoes while on tour as you will be required to cross rocks on both rides. Failure to comply with this will render you unfit to participate in your scheduled tour.

Group bookings:

Bookings of four or more people will be offered the opportunity to modify the route slightly (for example, to return along the beach also). If there is a shared interest (such as bird-watching, or photography), there is potential to have longer stops along the beach to pursue these interests. The bustling town of Wonthaggi can be visited for a coffee and cake mid-tour if you would like to replenish before the trek home!
