Dinner with Susan Carland
Join the Friends of Inverloch Library for their end of year event with Susan Carland who will talk about her recently released book ‘Fighting Hislam: Women, Faith & Sexism’ which tackles the subject of Muslim Women and gender equality.
Dr Carland is an academic, author and social commentator. She has a phD from Monash University’s School of Social Sciences where she is a lecturer and researcher at the university’s National Centre for Australian Studies.
In media appearances and in her book, Susan strives to enrich community debate about Muslim women. She interviews Muslim women from North America and Australia who are as committed to the fight against sexism as they are to their faith. She says that people often ignore the enormous diversity within Islam and says that religious beliefs can co-exist with women’s rights.
