Friday 14th March - Saturday 15th March
The 2025 Bass Coast Surf Film Festival showcases a selection of international and Australian films that capture the spirit of the ocean, the thrill of riding waves and the stories of those who live to surf.
Starting on Friday March 14 at 7pm local surf legend and international surf coach, Mal Gregson officially opens the festival before the screening of two Australian films ‘Book of Hunter’ and ‘You Should Have Been Here Yesterday’, which is one of the hottest Australian surf films in recent years, taking a look at Australian surf history and the stories of the wild community who took off up the coast and discovered a whole new way to live
Returning at 4pm on Saturday March 15 the festival continues with a series of short films from around the world including ‘Sleepwalking’ ‘Over the Undertow (NZ), Creatures of Habit (Canada & Iceland) ‘Sayang Indonesia’ ‘Surfing with Kelp & Sharks’ (Sth Africa) and ‘Yama’ (Ghana). At 6pm patrons can then enjoy live music from local band Foxy Junes and take a trip down memory lane with an exhibition of surfing memorabilia presented by the Phillip Island National Surfing Reserve
The third and final session starts at 7pm and showcases two environmentally focused feature films from Mexico and the Victorian west coast with ‘Place of Thorns’ and ‘Great Ocean Love’.
